Nice concentration of dark berry and charry oak aromas. Rich and earthy on the palette, with some fruit sweetness and mouth filling tannins.

Lovely nose smelling of ripe blackcurrants and wild olives. Developed blackcurrant fruit flavours with some herbs coming through, and light velvety tannin support.

'Impressive complexity'
"From a new Coonwarra vineyard, this was a clean, powerful red with deep cassis flavours and fine, soft tannins.
Keith saw an alluring, herbaceous, green bean character alongside a core of ripe fruit and liked its impressive complexity, while Karl mentioned good herbal flavours and firm tannins."
Banks Thargo Coonawarra Merlot 2001
"Banks Thargo Kidman is an avuncular gentleman who really is called that - obviously needing no Flash Harry with a thesaurus to think up smart-arsed brand names. This lithe, supple wine's a tad youthful and brash yet, but give it some years and it'll settle into a smooth Bordeaux-style red - its carbon and fireplace oak needs time to marry better to its leafy blackberry fruitgum flavours. It's a great bargain, even if you must trouble it now. Roast lamb with beets and reduced spinach"

"A brooding/earthy dark red berry nose. Big, rich, powerful palate dominated by lingering fruit flavours. Has great personality and plenty of length but needs lots more time."
